ICOT College students come from all over the world! Please be aware that immigration rules are different for each country and as such we encourage our students to always keep up to date with any changes to the immigration rules for your country and to check the Official Immigration Website frequently. We will provide all the information and assistance you need to go through this process in the best way.

European students do not need any special visa to study in Ireland.

NON-EU students who wish to study in Ireland for longer than 90 days might need to get a student visa to cover the duration of their stay in Ireland. Click here to see if your country is included in the visa waiver list (http://www.inis.gov.ie/en/INIS/Pages/check-irish-visa)

Steps to get your Student Visa:

Choose your English Course listed on the ILEP

You need to be enrolled in an English course with at least 15hours/week listed on the official list Interim List of Eligible Programs (ILEP). Our courses, such as General English course of 25 weeks, are all in accordance with Ireland’s student immigration policy, You can have Peace of mind when choosing ICOT College.

Contract your health insurance and book accomodation

It is a requirement of the study visa for non-EU students to take out private health insurance. For non-EU students who do not have current Health Insurance arrangements in place, ICOT will arrange student medical cover with Academy Plus. These policies cover emergency medical expenses, emergency travel and repatriation expenses, and are compliant with the applicable visa regulations. You will also have to have a confirmation Letter from the Residence, House, Hotel or Hostel at which you are going to stay

Have your documents ready

If you are coming to study in Ireland from a Non-European Country, you will need the following documents:

Passport

School Letter

Accomodation Letter

Health Insurance

Financial Evidence of €3,000

Flight Tickets

Short Term Course (less than 12 weeks)

Original Passport (valid for the whole period you intend to stay in the country).

Application Letter from ICOT College, with the details about your course and the confirmation of the full payment of it.

Confirmation Letter from the accommodation, house, hotel, hostel or any residence where you are going to stay.

For Short Term Courses it is required only a Tourist Visa.

If you are under 18 years of age, you will require a guardian in Ireland.

Private Health Insurance (€ )

Financial Evidence - Between €500 to €700 per month to live and pay your bills in Ireland.

Return flight ticket to the country of origin.

Long Term Course (more than 12 weeks)

Original Passport (valid for the whole period you intend to stay in the country).

Application Letter from ICOT College, with the details about your course and the confirmation of the full payment of it.

Confirmation Letter from the accommodation, house, hotel, hostel or any residence where you are going to stay.

For Long Term Courses the Student Visa for Non-EU students is mandatory. €300 for the Visa and IRP Registration.

If you are under 18 years of age, you will require a guardian in Ireland.

Governmental Insurance is mandatory and Private Health Insurance is optional.

Financial Evidence - €3,000 (Minimum)

Return flight ticket to the country of origin.

Arriving at the Airport

The documents will be required when applying for the visa at Garda National Immigration Office. Note that any of these documents can be asked at the immigration desk at the airport, as soon as you arrive in Ireland. It is extremely important to keep every document or confirmation printed with you during the flight in your hand luggage.

The officer will place a ‘landing stamp’ in your passport to give you temporary immigration permission to stay here. This stamp identifies how long you can stay. The maximum time you can stay will be shown by a date on the landing stamp. The usual time limit is 3 months, though you may be given less. If you arrive with a long stay ‘D’ visa and wish to stay longer than 3 months, you must visit the registration office in Dublin or at a local Garda station outside of Dublin, before your landing stamp expires to extend your immigration permission and register your details.

Appointment to get your first IRP

You have to book an appointment online to get your Irish Residence Permit (IRP). Your appointment should be scheduled two or three weeks after the start of your classes and no more than 180 days after your arrival in Ireland.

  • • On the day of your appointment don’t forget to bring your:
  • • Original Passport (valid for the whole period you intend to stay in the country).
  • • Application Letter from ICOT College, with the details about your course and the confirmation of the full payment of it.
  • • Governmental Insurance (Mandatory)
  • • Proof of your funds - €3,000 (Minimum)
  • • €300 (Credit or Debit card) for the payment of your Visa and IRP Registration.

New appointment times are released every day at 14:30 GMT.

Renew your IRP

If you have decided to renew your English course at ICOT College, you can apply online by visiting the Department of Justice website:

-First, you must create an account on the Department of Justice.

-Once you have logged in, click on “Applications for Permission to Remain in the State”, and click on the button “Begin Application”.

-You will be redirected to the Registration Renewal page, where you will have to carefully read and agree with their declaration; Tick the box “I have read and agreed to this declaration” and click “Next”.

-In the “Applicant details” section, you must fill in your personal details, you will also need your IRP, address and passport details. Click “Next”

-Now you will have to upload your “Supporting documents” listed below:

  • • Biometric page of your current valid passport(s).
  • • The front and back of your current IRP card.
  • • Proof of private medical insurance.
  • • An original letter from your college/school confirming you are enrolled as a student.
  • • Proof that you have paid college/school fees.
  • • Proof that you have an attendance record of at least 85% at your school/college.
  • • Proof of your exam results.

Once you have uploaded all the documents you may click on the button “Next” You can find the complete list of documents by clicking here.

The last step of your registration will be to confirm your application by ticking the box “I confirm that I am presently residing in the State at the time of making this application” and clicking Submit form.

Now you are all set! Just wait for their confirmation email with the next steps needed.
