Steps to get your Student Visa:

European Union (EU) Students

If you are a citizen of an EU/EEA country or Switzerland, you do not need a visa to study in Ireland. Here’s what you need to know:

Entry to Ireland:

  • As an EU/EEA/Swiss citizen, you can freely enter Ireland without the need for a visa or any special permits.
  • You must bring a valid passport or national identity card.

  • You do not need to register with the Garda National Immigration Bureau (GNIB) or obtain an Irish Residence Permit (IRP). Your EU citizenship allows you to reside and study in Ireland without additional immigration steps.

    Application Process:

  • You must apply for a visa online via the Irish Naturalisation and Immigration Service (INIS) website.
  • Submit your visa application along with supporting documents, such as an acceptance letter from our school, proof of financial means (at least 10K euros), accommodation booking and medical insurance.     Entry to Ireland:

  • Upon receiving your visa, you can travel to Ireland. At your point of entry, you must present your visa along with other necessary documents such as your acceptance letter, accommodation booking and return ticket. Full list of documents will be provided by your ICOT agent.
  • The immigration officer at the border will check your documents and may ask about the purpose of your visit, your accommodation, and your plans after your course ends.
  • After passing through immigration, you will receive a temporary landing stamp in your passport, allowing you to stay in Ireland. If your course is longer than 90 days, you must register with the Garda National Immigration Bureau (GNIB) within this period to obtain an Irish Residence Permit (IRP).

    Renewing Your Student Visa in Ireland

    Renewing your student visa in Ireland is now more convenient with the online renewal system. Follow this step-by-step guide to ensure a smooth renewal process.

    Prepare Required Documents

    Before starting the online application, make sure you have the following documents ready in digital format (scanned or clear photos):

  • Passport: Photo page and visa stamps.
  • Current Irish Residence Permit (IRP) card.
  • Enrolment Letter: An official letter from ICOT confirming your enrollment for the upcoming course.
  • Attendance Letter: An official letter with your attendance records from the previous course. Minimum rate must be 85%.
  • Health Insurance: Policy documents valid for the duration of your stay.
  • End of Course Exam Certificate.

    Access the Online Renewal Portal

    Go to the Irish Immigration Service Delivery (ISD)website and navigate to the Online Renewal Portal.

    Create or Log into Your Account

    If you’re a first-time user, create an account using your email address. If you’ve used the system before, simply log in.

    Fill Out the Application Form

    Once logged in, complete the online application form. You’ll need to enter personal details, educational information, and upload the documents prepared earlier.

    Pay the Renewal Fee

    After completing the form, you’ll be prompted to pay the renewal fee (typically €300). Payment is made online via credit or debit card.

    Review your application carefully, to ensure all details are correct and all documents are attached. Once satisfied, submit your application.

    Wait for Processing

    After submission, you’ll receive a confirmation email. Your application will be reviewed, and if everything is in order, your new IRP card will be processed.

    Receive Your New IRP Card

    Once your application is approved, your new IRP card will be sent to you by post. This card serves as proof of your legal residency in Ireland as a student.

    Your renewed visa will have an expiration date. Keep note of this date and ensure you renew your visa in a timely manner for the next course.
